Bowen was created by Headmaster Qin Da Zhong (Affectionately known by students as "Big Ben.") with the help of his family in 2000. Typical BoWen School Students are young children, under the age of 8 who study basic vocabulary, games and songs. Because Headmaster Qin was born with a slight deformity, most saw no future for him, and encouraged him to accept a life as a line worker in his father's beer factory. Unsatisfied with the dull work, Headmaster Qin left the factory and, with no formal education, opened the first Bo Wen School in Yue Yang's main square. In a short time, he built Bo Wen into one of the most successful foreign language schools in the City, and subsequently opened several branch schools, one of them in the neighboring countryside town of Hua Rong, giving the children of poor farmers there their first chance to study English seriously. Headmaster Qin continues to dedicate himself to his own education and the education of children. The newest branch of Bo Wen, at Jiao Shi Xin Cun, or Teacher's Village, is under the direction of Headmaster Qin Da Bo. Teacher's Village is where the seeds were planted for the UCS program. The school is open to experimentation and welcoming to foreign teachers. Advanced summer classes with a focus on expression, discussion and introduction to the culture behind the language were very successful, there. A library, English-only cafe, English Corner and other events were started by foreign teachers and proved very popular.
